Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. It shall be, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the rainbow shall be seen in the cloud; and I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.”  (Genesis 9:11-15)

God made an everlasting covenant with Noah and with all of us that He would never cause a flood to destroy the earth again. Although God used the words ‘never again’ to emphasise His point, He established this covenant with a sign. He didn’t have to; His word alone was enough. His word is powerful. With it, He created everything we know and see today.

Now, whenever we see a rainbow, we are reminded of His promise. He didn’t show that sign because He needed to remind Himself not to destroy the earth, He doesn’t need to be reminded of the promises He makes. Unfortunately, we are the ones who need to be reminded. God showed a sign because actions speak louder than words.

There may be something in your love life that you need to declare ‘never again’ to. It could be that you lie to your partner; are having an affair; you watch pornography or keep certain friendships that are damaging your relationship, or perhaps, you constantly doubt yourself or think that you are not good enough and will never be happy in love.

If you truly want to change and never be the same again, then the signs have to follow. Unfortunately, many people say one thing but never follow through. For this reason, their spouse doesn’t believe them when they say they will change.

When you prove yourself through your actions, you don’t need to continually promise that you won’t or will do something. Usually, people who do this don’t change and are only trying to convince others with their words. However, you will only be believed when the proof of your change is emphasised by the signs that follow your words.

You have surely seen a rainbow more than once in your lifetime. The promise is reinforced every time the sign is visible.

‘Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”’ (John 4:48)

Faith comes through the hearing of the word of God, but also through the signs we see. So be a person of your word and reinforce it with actions.
